We only work with quality brands
You want your uPVC sliding door to tick all your boxes. That’s why we’re always happy to help you find the perfect fit. There’s only one thing we never compromise on: quality. That’s why we only ever work with quality brands.

Weru uPVC lift-and-slide patio doors
We love Weru. They are the definition of the ‘Deutsche Gründlichkeit’ we love: precision, thoroughness and great eye for detail, and have been since 1843. Weru products are known for their exceptional quality, versatility and insulation, and the Alegra sliding patio door is no exception.

Schmidt uPVC lift-and-slide patio doors
We also install uPVC sliding patio doors from Schmidt, a leading patio door specialist with a wide range of lift-and-slide doors. Good to know: Schmidt do not supply directly to homeowners, but they do sell to us.
Prefer aluminium?
We love uPVC, but aluminium is another excellent choice if you’re looking for sleek, slim and strong profiles. Especially if you go for a premium brand like Mondana. There’s only one problem: this webpage is about uPVC sliding patio doors.

uPVC sliding patio doors: benefits and considerations
A uPVC sliding patio door offers many benefits, but there are a few key considerations to keep in mind.
Benefits
- Insulation. Flooding your home with light and space without compromising insulation, that’s what Weru and Schmidt sliding patio doors do best.
- Durable. Our uPVC sliding patio doors last for decades and are manufactured using as many recyclable materials as possible.
- Safety and security. You can truly relax with a uPVC sliding patio door. Not only because of its excellent insulation, but also because of its impressive fire safety and burglary protection.
- Versatile. uPVC sliding patio doors are highly versatile in terms of design, colour, finish, additional options and made-to-measure possibilities.
- Comfort. uPVC sliding patio doors are wonderfully low-maintenance. All they need is an occasional clean with mild soapy water. Ditch the timber maintenance and switch to hassle-free uPVC.
Considerations
- Professional installation is a must. A uPVC sliding patio door covers a rather large area and is almost always made to measure. If something goes wrong, a quick fix usually isn’t an option. Getting them properly fitted the first time around is essential.
- Don’t forget the glass. While uPVC sliding patio doors provide unequalled insulation, the glass you choose plays an important role as well. We’re happy to advise you on the high-efficiency glazing options available for your new sliding patio door.
- Wider profiles. uPVC door profiles can be remarkably sleek and slim, but if you want the slimmest frames available, an aluminium sliding patio door is the best option.

Standard sliding patio doors vs. lift-and-slide patio doors: what’s the difference?
Not every sliding patio door opens the same way. We’ve broken down the different types of doors in the list below. Just to be clear, we exclusively sell uPVC lift-and-slide patio doors. If you ask us, they are the best option for both homes and office buildings alike.
- Fixed screen. A fixed screen cannot be opened; it is essentially a glass wall. A fixed uPVC screen can be fitted with a door or sliding panel.
- Sliding patio door. The well-known standard sliding patio door consists of one or more panels placed on tracks, allowing you to slide them to the side.
- Lift-and-slide patio door. To the naked eye, a lift-and-slide door looks just like a normal sliding patio door. The difference is the opening mechanism: you lift the door slightly using the handle before sliding it to the side. This provides a tighter seal, which means extra insulation and security.
- Tilt-and-slide patio door. Just like a lift-and-slide model, a tilt-and-slide patio door is lifted slightly before it slides open. However, you can also tilt the top of the door open. Perfect for letting in some fresh air on a warm day.
- Bi-folding doors and accordion walls. We also supply glass partitions in all shapes and sizes, such as bi-folding doors. Note that we only supply them with aluminium frames!

A sea of light and sense of space with Weru’s uPVC sliding patio doors
A uPVC sliding patio door is a great way to flood your home with light and create a real sense of space. And just as you would expect from proper German engineering, a Weru uPVC lift-and-slide patio door keeps the noise out and the warmth in. Both the high-efficiency double glazing (standard HR++) and the uPVC profiles (complete with thermal air chambers) ensure excellent insulation.
uPVC sliding patio doors: double or triple glazing?
Whether you choose a uPVC or an aluminium sliding patio door, the vast majority of it is made of glass. To guarantee proper insulation and security, choosing the right type of glazing is key. At Ambra Kozijnen, all uPVC sliding patio doors come with high-efficiency double glazing (HR++), which is highly insulating. For even less heat loss, you can also opt for triple glazing (HR+++). For the best possible thermal performance, opt for triple glazing fitted with a warm edge spacer bar between the panes.
Profile systems: 5 or 6 chambers
Weru uPVC sliding patio doors are available with either a 5- or 6-chamber profile, made from PVC and reinforced with steel. These thermal air chambers ensure excellent insulation and reduce draughts. For the highest possible insulation performance, we recommend you choose the 6-chamber profile.
The versatility of a uPVC sliding patio door
One of the best things about uPVC sliding patio doors is their versatility. There are countless options to choose from when it comes to colours, shapes, finishes, handles and security features. Top tip: pop into our showroom to see the wide range of options for yourself!

With or without threshold
Weru uPVC lift-and-slide patio doors have a low threshold as standard. But you might prefer to have no step at all, for example when you want to make your home fully wheelchair accessible. In that case, the doorstep is recessed into the floor, so the bottom of the sliding door sits completely flush with the floor.
Colour and structure
While the standard colour for Weru lift-and-slide patio doors is white (RAL 9016), they are available in a wide range of colours and textures. Whether you’re looking for a uPVC sliding patio door in anthracite grey with a textured pearl finish, a rustic oak woodgrain effect or sleek, plain black, anything is possible.

Glazing bars
If you prefer a more traditional look, you might want to include glazing bars. The good news is that they can be easily incorporated into your uPVC sliding patio door in exactly the same way as with standard windows and doors. Choose between Georgian bars between the panes, applied glazing bars with matching bars between the panes, or structural glazing bars that divide the glass into separate sections. The differences are shown below.

Security
A Weru uPVC sliding patio door always comes with a secure profile cylinder lock, ensuring uninvited guests can’t simply walk in. Weru lift-and-slide patio doors meet the strict requirements of the Police Residential Security Warranty. They also carry the KOMO quality mark, a Dutch construction industry certification. On top of that, you can add any additional security features you can think of.
Glass and insulation
The overall insulation performance depends on the type of glazing you choose: double, triple, or triple with an added warm edge spacer bar. Weru uPVC sliding patio doors can also be fitted with solar-control glazing, acoustic glazing or laminated insulating glass. Our team is happy to advise you!
Roller shutters
A large window lets in plenty of light. But sometimes you want to keep that light out. In that case, you can add roller shutters to suit your uPVC sliding patio door. These can even be pre-fitted at the factory. Choose between different control systems: a remote control, a digital timer or a wireless wall switch.

Insect screens and trickle vents
You may want to open your sliding patio door to let in some fresh air, but the downside is that insects will think they’re invited too. An insect screen solves that problem: any creepy crawlies will stay outside while the fresh air can still come in. We supply and install fully custom-made KeJe screen doors, and can also fit your uPVC sliding patio door with built-in trickle vents while we’re at it.
Opening options: 2-, 3- and 4-panel configurations
Not all uPVC sliding patio doors are created equal. This is largely down to the various opening and layout options. The maximum width of each individual pane is 300 cm, and the total overall width of a lift-and-slide patio door can reach up to six metres. Also, you don’t just choose the number of panes, but also exactly which of those you want to slide open and which remain fixed.

Happy customers: a new uPVC sliding patio door from Weru
We love talking about the many benefits of a Weru uPVC sliding patio door, but we might as well show you. The pictures below show the result of a successful project completed by our team in Sassenheim: anthracite grey door frames and a white lift-and-slide patio door with a woodgrain finish. All hardware, both on the inside and outside, carry an RC2 rating, providing the highest level of burglary protection.

Schmidt’s uPVC lift-and-slide patio doors
We also supply and install uPVC sliding patio doors from Schmidt, a renowned manufacturer of lift-and-slide doors. They developed a highly sophisticated profile system as early as 1990, and have been known for their exceptionally well-insulated, windproof and watertight lift-and-slide doors ever since. Schmidt also offers various optional extras, including:
- eVOMATIC ©: A concealed motorised drive that lets you open and close the lift-and-slide door via remote control
- Soft Stop damper: slows the sliding panel as it closes, so it always comes to a smooth and gentle stop
- Electronic burglary protection
- Additional security packages
- Additional comfort packages

Schmidt uPVC lift-and-slide patio doors are available in a variety of colours and styles. Just like Weru’s, but with their own unique features. Curious to learn more? Come and get inspired at our showroom!
Happy customers: a new uPVC lift-and-slide patio door from Schmidt
Another successful project: a brand new uPVC lift-and-slide patio door from Schmidt. The team at Ambra Kozijnen replaced the old timber structure with a new Schmidt Quinline 74, featuring an anthracite grey pearl finish on both the inside and the outside. On top of that, the homeowners also opted for anti-snap cylinder locks, which prevents the cylinder from being drilled or pulled out. Excellent security, and let’s not forget, equally excellent insulation all year round.

Installing a uPVC sliding patio door
When fitting a new uPVC sliding patio door, we usually begin by removing the existing frame. If your new doors are replacing a standard window, we will also remove the brickwork below the window. We take extra care at every step to make sure nothing gets damaged. We then line the opening with timber framing before installing the sliding door, ensuring a draught-proof, weather-tight finish. Finally, we’ll take away the old glass, frames and brickwork and dispose of it responsibly.

The costs of a uPVC sliding patio door including fitting
Let’s talk money. How much does one of these amazing, well-insulated Weru or Schmidt uPVC sliding patio doors actually cost? Honestly, that depends entirely on the size, the type of glass and any optional extras you choose. That’s why we can’t give you an instant, one-size-fits-all price.
What we do guarantee is a completely transparent quote with absolutely zero surprises. That way, you’ll know exactly what to expect before giving us the green light.
