Installing a VELUX roof window

We ensure a seamless installation of your VELUX roof window, fully insulated and nearly always done and dusted within one day. When installing a new roof window, we start by creating an opening in the roof, just as we would for a dormer window. We then finish everything off meticulously, leaving you with nothing to do except sit back and enjoy a lighter, brighter room for years to come.

Types of VELUX roof windows

If we were to list all the different types of roof windows VELUX has to offer, we’d be here all day. To give you an idea of what’s available, here are a few worth highlighting.

VELUX pivot window

A centre-pivot roof window opens from the top. It’s very easy to use, even if there’s furniture underneath it. The hinges sit right in the middle of the window. Pivot windows are perfect for rooms with low ceilings, such as a loft.

VELUX top-hung roof window

A top-hung roof window opens the opposite way: from the bottom of the window rather than the top. Again, the hinges sit in the middle. Top-hung windows rotate 180 degrees, which makes them easy to clean without having to climb onto the roof.

VELUX electric roof window

All VELUX roof windows are available in an electric version. Instead of opening them manually, you use a wall switch or an app. Good to know: all electric VELUX roof windows feature a built-in rain sensor, so the window automatically closes when it starts to rain.

VELUX solar-powered electric roof window

You can also opt for a solar-powered roof window, where an integrated solar cell charges the window’s battery whenever the sun is shining. Solar power is eco-friendly and cost effective. And another big plus: installation doesn’t require any cabling.

VELUX 2-in-1 roof window

A 2-in-1 roof window consists of two windows within a single frame. This works out cheaper than having two separate windows installed and results in a large glass surface that brings in twice as much light.

VELUX 3-in-1 roof window

Can you go three times better? With a 3-in-1 roof window you absolutely can! Just like the 2-in-1 model, the 3-in-1 version has extra slim profiles. Perfect for larger rooms and anyone who loves space and light.

VELUX dormer window

A standard dormer window has a small, solid roof. With a VELUX dormer window, that roof is actually a window as well, bringing in lots of light and creating a sense of space. And just like almost all VELUX products, you can fully customise it to suit your needs.

VELUX flat roof window

A rooflight, or skylight window, is great for flat roofs. Just like VELUX roof windows, they can be made to measure and operate either manually or electronically. You can also opt for a fixed rooflight, which doesn’t open.

VELUX glazing

Choosing standard VELUX glazing guarantees you:

• A toughened outer pane for extra protection
• A laminated inner pane that prevents shattered glass from falling if it breaks
• Extra noise reduction from rain and hail
• UV-protection to stop your furniture from fading

You can also opt for roof windows with triple glazing or even five panes of glass, easy-clean coating, anti-dew coating, additional burglary protection, additional sound and/or thermal insulation, and much more. We’ll gladly advise you on the glazing that best suit your needs.

VELUX roof window: uPVC or timber?

VELUX roof windows used to be made exclusively from timber, but these days there is a great selection of uPVC windows to choose from. uPVC is almost maintenance-free and lasts for decades. While VELUX uPVC roof windows are slightly more expensive than standard timber models, the price difference is fairly small. At Ambra Kozijnen, we make no secret of our love for uPVC. But if you prefer timber, we will, of course, supply and install it with just as much care and attention.

VELUX window furnishings in different colours

A nice new roof window looks even better with a matching blind. With VELUX, you can choose from standard curtains, roller blinds, pleated blinds and venetian blinds. They come in a wide range of colours and finishes, such as blackout or translucent. Electric or manual, the choice is yours. Here’s a selection of the available colours.

VELUX sun blinds and shutters

Not a fan of traditional curtains or venetian blinds? There are many other ways to keep the sun out, such as roller shutters or awning blinds. Just like internal blinds, they can be operated in various ways. And there are plenty of extra options to choose from.

Want to open your roof window without inviting in a swarm of mosquitoes? Simply get a VELUX insect screen to go with your window. They’re designed to pair perfectly with any VELUX blinds, curtains and shutters. The transparent mesh screen means you can enjoy fresh air and unobstructed views while keeping unwanted flying visitors firmly outside.

VELUX trickle vents

Good ventilation is essential for a healthy home. That’s why VELUX have developed a self-regulating ventilation flap for their next generation of roof windows. The unit fits all manually operated roof windows, automatically adjusting airflow based on wind pressure.

VELUX control systems

You can operate your electric VELUX products in a variety of ways:

• VELUX Wall Switch: The standard wall switch supplied with electric roof windows.
• VELUX Touch: A sleek, wall-mounted control pad that lets you operate multiple VELUX products at the same time.
• VELUX App Control: Offers the same functionalities as VELUX Touch, but as an app on your smartphone.
• VELUX ACTIVE: A smartphone app connected to indoor climate sensors that monitor and regulate temperature, humidity and CO₂ levels in your home. Windows ventilate automatically, while blinds and shutters open and close based on real-time weather conditions and your personal settings.
